About this project
The Carpathia Forest Carbon Project protects 13,958 hectares of high-conservation-value forest in Romania’s Făgăraș Mountains, one of Europe’s last remaining temperate wilderness areas. By securing private land for permanent conservation, restoring degraded ecosystems, and reconnecting wildlife corridors, the project safeguards biodiversity and supports key species such as European bison and beavers. Independently verified and funded through carbon finance, Carpathia has created local employment, protected 27,000 hectares of forest, and demonstrates how climate action can deliver measurable benefits for nature and communities.
